Coop. Progresso e Lavoro: a long history of innovation and growth in the railway manufacturing sector

Headquartered in Brindisi and with a history spanning half a century, Coop. Progresso e Lavoro (CPL) is now a national reference point in the construction, overhaul, and maintenance of railway carriages. Founded in 1974, the cooperative has grown steadily without losing sight of its roots, combining artisanal skills with technological advancement.

“Ours is a passion passed down through generations — three, to be exact — and we carry it forward with a focus on quality and innovation,” says CTO Valerio Spinosa.

The CPL facility covers more than 40,000 m² in the Brindisi industrial area, just steps from the port and directly connected to the railway network. The company operates on 13,000 m² of covered space and 25,000 m² of equipped area, all with tracks, ensuring efficient and fast production flows.

“Over the years, we’ve expanded our range of services multiple times: from freight wagons to passenger carriages and, more recently, luxury trains. One particularly prestigious project in this area is our partnership with Arsenale S.p.A. for the construction of the ‘Orient Express – La Dolce Vita’ train.”

Attention to quality and the ability to customize each project are the cooperative’s trademark:
“We operate with the mindset of an advanced workshop: highly specialized technical expertise, but also versatility and constant collaboration with clients. All production is carried out internally, allowing total control over the supply chain and streamlined, flexible processes.”
